| I've marked up web pages for friends and family, but never one for myself. My wife hounded me daily until I put up the moose. I worked on the moose for several days, but could not settle on a theme. You know, web pages have to have a theme. Otherwise they're Just Another Useless Page. |
My theme! The World Wide Web Watchword (sounds like Elmer Fudd) is Literacy. I challenge you to spell correctly; to use grammar for someone other than baking cookies or babysitting the kids. Use that spell checking software the way God intended. |
| I cannot delude myself and believe this, like any other web page, is anything but self-serving. Most of the pages I've looked at, played at, stared at and stolen from are collections of stuff. I love stuff. I have tons of stuff. George Carlin has nothing on me. I have seen some sophisticated presentations; some are truly artistic. Most are grammatically atrocious. In recognition of that fact, I have decided to launch a one-person campaign to bring literacy to the World Wide Web. | If our children were commodities traded on the world exchange, no one would invest in them. We can't compete on the world market. We invest millions of dollars in schools - to what end? I don't want to preach (yes I do), but why do we see so much invested in the "dumbing of America?" Fast food restaurants put pictures of food on cash registers so the help doesn't have to read. Sure it reduces labor costs. But life doesn't come with pictures. Look for me at your web site. |
| I intend to search the web for philological excellence. Tom Peters is always searching for it. So will I. If I find it, you get a stinking badge. If I don't find it, you get a different stinking badge. | I have no quarrel with poetic license. I have no desire to debate ethnic departure from "textbook" usage. I will gladly engage in philological discussion. I am reminded of my favorite joke page that contains a subhead "With many correctly spelled words." |
